The latest characters to join the roster of the upcoming Super Smash Bros. for Wii U and 3DS are Lucina and Robin from Fire Emblem: Awakening and Captain Falcon. This brings the character roster with recent additions including Pac-Man, Lady Palutena from Kid Icarus and Mii Fighters up to 36 fighters. There was also Chrom in the announcement but he is not a playable character and only appears in Robin’s final smash.

Super Smash Bros. creator Masahiro Sakurai also revealed in a post on Miiverse that the studio reached out to Ubisoft for artwork to include an in-game trophy of Rayman from his eponymous series. Ubisoft responded by sending Team Sora a brand new 3D model rendered specially for the game. The game will launch for 3DS on Oct. 3 and for Wii U this holiday.

  1. This is the only character announcement for the new Smash Bros that I’ve actually cared about so far…everything else has been pretty underwhelming. Still, buying a WiiU just for this game is just horribly inefficient.

    • You like the Fire Emblem series a lot ey? Well i’m sure there are some more newcomers that will make people go excited about the game. Well there is a lot more about the Wii U than just Smash, i’m pretty much enjoying my Wii U at the moment, it might not have that much 3rd party games, but all the 1st party games are quality and really nice. I take that you are not into Legend of Zelda? Because most i’ve heard are sold at E3 about the Wii U :p

        • Guess there is no love for Zelda from you haha. I think Zelda is one of the best Nintendo has to offer and I find Captain Toad to be cool. Yeah Splatoon looks ok to me, looks fun but i’m not quite sure how long the appeal will last after playing the game. No Mario Kart love as well? :p

  2. As I mentioned in my coverage of the revealed characters Lucina makes a better “Ken” to Marth than Roy does. Also since I’m not a diehard Fire Emblem fan Chrom not being playable is not that big of a deal, especially because of Shulk possibly coming next. We already have three swordsmen, a swordswoman and a paladin. I have no desire for a fourth sword-wielder.

I’m also surprised by the reactions for Pac-Man and this one. Old school fans (myself included) were more ecstatic for the Almighty Pacster while new school fans jizzed over these two. I get two more ladies to choose so it’s all good.

    • Well no one seen that coming really. Who would have thought Pac-Man, Sonic and Mario the greatest rival in the old console wars would be together in one single game.
