Sorry for my lack of posting. My internship has been controlling my life, causing me to work 6 days a week. I have been living in rural Costa Rica on top of a mountain; internet is not the best up here. I don’t have wireless, just a plugin in the corner of my cabin. Despite all this I managed to watch many of the new spring 2013 anime. Sooo here is what I think about the different shows this season, or something.
Red Data Girl
Combining a plot that makes no sense and one of the worst intro songs of the season comes…Red data Girl. It baffles me why I continue to watch this show but I’m 7 episodes in and I think I may have come up with an answer. This show makes me sleepy. I have to get up at 5:30 every morning to go census endangered species in the Costa Rican cloud forest…so I need my sleep. All I need is one episode of Red Data Girl and I am asleep by 9pm. The show isn’t all bad, P.A Work’s animation is always great, and I enjoy certain plot points throughout the show, especially when it revolves around the triplets…although they are a little unnecessarily melodramatic at times. Izumiko Suzuhara is the boring protagonist who is supposed to be guarded and protected for reasons you find out early on in the series. Then why send her to this dangerous boarding school where there are many students out to get her? I may not have watched this series close enough to actually understand what is going on. My recommendation skip this series, there are much better this season.
Hentai Ōji to Warawanai Neko or HenNeko or The Hentai Prince and the Stony Cat
I probably shouldn’t be laughing as hard as I have been at this series. I originally thought that it was going to be a series full of fan-service and overused plot devices, but I was wrong. It is more of a romantic comedy with a fantastical twist…a very vulgar romantic comedy. If you are easily offended, parts of this show might offend you, I will give an example. Yōto Yokodera and Azusa Azuki are on a date. The date consists of Yoto taking Azusa to look at wedding dresses for some bizarre reason. Yoto then says something along the lines of what comes after marriage…and he takes her to the abortion clinic. I thought it was pretty funny…but it was offensive to many people. I recommend giving this show an episode, you will know right of the bat if this show is your cup of tea.

This may be the most frustrating show I have ever watched. I want to like it, I think I like it but seriously who decided to use rotoscoping for this anime. It looks cheap and it takes away from one of the most dramatic/heavy anime I have ever watched. If you can get past the rotoscoping there is something to this show. Sawa Nakamura makes this series. She is one of the most unpredictable/unstable characters I have ever come across. With her pulling the strings I highly doubt this series is going to have a happy ending. I recommend don’t watch more than one episode of this series at a time…it will drive you crazy. I have a hard time even watching one episode at a time…it just brings up emotions and it will make you yell at your computer when specific situations occur. This show has potential and if you can get past the bizarre rotoscoping there is a brilliant anime for you to watch.
Hataraku Maō-sama
Studio White Fox has never let me down, and they continue their quality anime with “The Devil Is a Part-Timer.” If you haven’t watched this series you should start it immediately. It revolves around Satan working at the equivalent of McDonalds. He escaped to Tokyo after being defeated by the Hero Emilia. He tries to live a quiet life working at a fast food restaurant while shenanigans occur. The first 6 episode of this show were strong…but then in episode 7 they added a third love interest. I hope this show doesn’t turn into a typical harem series and I hope it doesn’t take a step back from what made this series special in the first place…Ether way try this series out, it has been pretty good so far.
Okay so I am going to make a part 2 post, which will present my opinions so far on
Suisei no Gargantia
Devil Survivor 2
Shigeki no Kyojin (Attack of the Titan)
And
Yahari Ore no Seishun Love Come wa Machigatteiru
Wow come to think of it I can’t believe I am watching 8 anime series this season. Last season I didn’t even complete a whole series…..
Tell me if you have any recommendations of the other series I have yet to watch.
