I’m sorry this is so late; I have been very busy with school and have barely had anytime to sleep let alone watch any anime or write any reviews.  Despite this being late lets jump right into episode 2 of Zetsuen no Tempest, which was great.  It is immediately apparent that Yoshino isn’t some bland boring character.  He is much more calm and collected than Mahiro is but that doesn’t make him any less dangerous.  After the first episode I thought he was going to become the weak male protagonist that many anime have but not after seeing episode 2.  One thing we learn that is very important is that he was dating Mahiro’s sister Aika and he loved her.  He could have easily lived for revenge like Mahiro but he doesn’t and that makes him all the more interesting.  Yoshino is also able to show off a very cold side; he could have easily killed Evangeline in cold blood but he decided to spare her and use her for his own gain.  He is going to be a character that I will start to like more and more as this series goes on.

Lets get to a common theme of this show and that is Shakespeare.  After doing some minimal research it all makes sense now.  Mahiro Fuwa is loosely based on Prince Hamlet; a man who abandons all of his moral codes for revenge.  All Mahiro Fuwa does is think about the revenge of his sister.  I wonder if in the end he will end up dead like Hamlet, which would make for an interesting ending.  Yoshino is loosely based off of Romeo.  He has a secret love that ended up dying.  I wonder if he wishes he could have died by his love’s side yet he forced to endure a painful life alone.  The last Shakespeare reference I could find was Hakaze being compared to Prospero from The Tempest, one of my favorite Shakespeare plays.  I understand that she is a powerful mage who was banished to island just like Prospero but I expect we will find some other connections between the two later.

(What a sad and beautiful image)

This show has left me with one big question.  I really want to know how Aika died and for what reason.  Did it have something to do with Kusaribe clan?  I can’t wait to watch the rest of this series and find out.  I have decided I will be blogging the entirety of this series!  I hope you guys have enjoyed the first 2 episodes as much as I have.

Thanks for reading!
