YES! This was so worth the wait. The first 3 episodes were slow but it was well worth the wait. We were dumped with so much screwed up information I don’t know where to start. The world in Shinsekai Yori was obviously a dystopia from the start but I never expected it to be as bad off as it was. The former society of those whom have the forbidden power consists of rape and massacre. The scientists may have chosen the only way to human to exist. They developed tests and lesson to help weed out those whom are unstable. The reason they do this is to protect people from another dark age, where the unstable control the world. The problem with killing those who are unstable is that the “scientists” are as bad as those who are unstable; there must be better and more logical ways to stop the unstable. I would propose they use the same phycology they use to weed out those who are unstable to help them.
There are parts of the show that suggest that Saki has a violent personality. There is a scene in this episode where she has a memory about her stabbing the old preist. Her parents are also frequently freaking out about if she will disappear. Last episode she had no reservations about damaging the library creature for her own personal gain. It may be good that she got away from the society before she ended up disappearing.
So the kids get their power sealed for now. I don’t know how long that will last but the priest guy sealed them for now. I found it extremely interesting when we learn about what happen when people kill. It is funny that when you kill others you get poisoned, serves you right. The priest is in rough shape after massacring all of the Queerats. I guessing in the next episode the Queerat who lived kills the priest. I’m not sure that these rats are even bad. The preview for the next episode shows the Queerat asking the kids to go along with them. I wonder what is next!
Here is one last thing I want to talk about. Those who govern the world in Shinsekai Yori want a society that is controlled by sex. Look like the author of this series was a huge fan of Aldous Huxley. I am guessing that this will be important later in the story, we can already see some relationship forming, and not your conventional romance ether. It is going to be very interesting.
Thanks for reading.
