Urabe and Tsubaki decided to try the occult. They decided to resurrect Tsubaki’s mom by swapping drool on her grave…okay not really that would have been pretty cool. Mysterious Girlfriend X meets Sankarea that would be one strange crossover. Instead of the normal weirdness we have been accustomed to except from MGX, episode 13 was much more sentimental. We learn a lot about Tsubaki’s past and about his dead mother. There was still no real kiss scene in the episode but what was really sweet was when Urabe said that she wanted to stay with Tsubaki forever. There will probably never be a second season of this show because I don’t think it was very popular but we at least get an OVA some time in the summer season
MGX reminds me of the 90’s. Everything from the character design to the lighting and shading is a blast from the past. It reminds me of some of the stuff that used to be on Toonami back in the day. There is very little movement in the anime; luckily it doesn’t take away from the overall appeal of the anime.
Tsubaki and Urabe are the only characters who really matter and they are both weird. They are a joy to watch and they make what could have been an unoriginal romantic comedy into something special. Sometimes I was aggravated with how Tsubaki approached situations but overall they were great.
It is nothing special. I didn’t ever really notice the background music and I wasn’t fan of the opening/closing. The voice actors did their jobs, I liked Urabe’s voice, it was unique.
MGX is your everyday high school romance mixed with drool! It takes a story I have seen a million times and makes it fresh. It is just another story about high school love but it is one of the most original series I have seen in awhile.
MGX was the biggest surprise of the season. I wasn’t going to originally blog or watch this series. I’m happy I watched it and I recommend to almost everyone.
