(This picture is ridiculous, call me maybe???)
The second episode of Arcana Famiglia seemed like a waste. I wouldn’t go as far as to say it was filler, but it sure felt like it. I think who ever wrote the script wanted the episode to consist of situations that get you to know the characters better but I felt that the whole episode was a little silly. The episode really leaned heavy on its comedy to try to entertain the viewer and the comedy failed. I never personally laughed; I may have smiled a few times through.
Episode 2 felt like a visual novel. I know it is based on one but I hate it when anime feel this way, it is so unnatural and it doesn’t feel believable. It felt extremely unnatural when the show would go out of its way to explain the characters different powers. There are plenty of show based off of visual novels where the script writing is strong enough so everything flows perfectly. I think it is just lazy script writing and convenience for the writer.
I am worried that there will be more of these pointless episodes before we finally get to the main tournament, which will be the main focus of the anime. Arcana is based off of a romance visual novel for girls. I have never played it before but I bet a lot of the game consisted in developing the male characters so the player can choose one to marry in the end. I am guessing the first 6 episodes will focus on Felicita developing a relationship with the boys and then the second half will finally be the action.
Hopefully next week will be better. Thanks for reading!
